How do my herd of horses know what is going on in clients heads? When my client is busy churning away in the neo cortex part of their brain the horses walk away and have no interest. In fact one of the ponies with an old soul and a history of abuse actually tried to hid behind me in a session the other day when the client disappeared into their thoughts!
So how do these magnificent animals know what is going on with humans? and surely if they turn away when humans are lost in thought do they have any chance of understanding humans?Horses are not thinkers, in order to survive from predators they have to rely on the sensations that they feel throughout their body and respond accordingly. Horses uses all sensory awareness, they are tuned into vibration, smell, sound, sight, gut feelings, energy and to respond to situations.
When we talk about horses reflecting what is happening for a human they are often one step ahead, the human may have no understanding of what is going on in their body. Whereas a horse will be reflecting what is happening in their body. Watching the horses enables clients to start to understand how different sensations in their body relate to different emotions.
Recently, a client kept exploring the sensations in her feet, when asked what emotion this evoked the reply was security, further discussion identified the emotion that accompanies security is vulnerability. The client then understood that this feeling in their feet showed that they were not feeling vulnerable, and if the client was in a situation where the feeling in their feet wasn't their they could be feeling vulnerable, this in turn would then activate curiosity to work out why they were feeling vunerable, we then went on to explore the sensations in the body that accompanied curiosity.
For humans, being in the present enables them to identify the sensation in their bodies that accompanies emotions, enabling them to become more in tune with them self. As they become more horse like and aware of the sensations within and around them, they see beyond words and actions and sense the situation rather than analyse it.
Horses are the masters for teaching humans to move away from conversations in their heads and to listen to their inner senses
